WASHINGTON, DC - Americans for Roberts, a coalition of more than 300 organizations supporting John Roberts confirmation to be the next Chief Justice of the United States, is urging Senators on the Judiciary committee to put aside special interests and give John Roberts his up or down vote by the full Senate.
"Last week, John Roberts testified for a record 22 hours, answering 510 questions that ranged from the cerebral to the absurd. He showed the American public that he has the qualifications, the temperament and the patience for the job, said Kay Daly, President of The Coalition for a Fair Judiciary. Sadly, there are still some Senate Democrats who need to take that into account and cut the puppet strings of their special interest group friends who are howling for the obstruction of this extraordinary nominee."
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, along with Senator Ted Kennedy announced they are inclined to vote against John Roberts. But Patrick Leahy, the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary committee has signaled he will support the Roberts nomination. "Leahy recognizes the obvious", said Daly. "John Roberts demonstrated last week that he deserves a confirmation he is a judge who respects the Constitution and will not legislate from the bench. Case closed."
DC Circuit Court Judge John Roberts was nominated to be the next Chief Justice of the United States by President George W. Bush. Americans for Roberts support a fair hearing, a civil debate and a prompt vote.
